A normal week

What a Director of AI actually does all day.

People ask what a Director of AI does all day. Here’s a normal week.

The client side

A good chunk of my week is coaching ServiceTitan work for home-service businesses. A setup isn’t doing what someone needs, or a process could run smoother, and I help work it out. It keeps me close to real businesses with real customers waiting.

Building

Between calls, I build. Automations that take repetitive spreadsheet work off someone’s plate. Custom AI assistants that each do one specific job. Most of them start because somebody, often me, keeps doing the same thing by hand.

Writing it down

Most builds come with a short doc that says how to use it and what to watch for. It’s part of the work, and it means the team owns the tool, not my laptop.

Teaching

Some part of almost every week is teaching. Sometimes that’s a workshop. More often it’s a quick screen share with one person who wants to try something on their own work. I teach people in just about every role.

Leadership

I’m part of leadership conversations too, usually as the person answering “could AI help with this?” Sometimes the answer is no, and that’s useful too. Part of my job is helping decide where AI is worth it and where it isn’t.

Friday

Fridays are my focus day. I keep them for building. That’s when the bigger projects get done and the week gets cleaned up.

Keeping my own house in order

One thing people don’t expect: I use AI agents to keep my own systems organized. Files, notes, task lists, the stuff that piles up. Some of that runs on its own, and some of it I look over first.

What doesn’t show up on a calendar

Most of the week is small stuff. A question answered. A step written down. A teammate who won’t need to ask next time.
